Some journeys take you forward. Others also accelerate you on your passion tracks. Embever was again chosen to follow its innovation passion in railway with DB mindbox Regio 2025, Deutsche Bahn’s accelerator program for startups reimagining regional mobility.

After previous successful collaborations within the DB Startup ecosystem, this new chapter marked our second selection to work alongside DB Regio, a chance to take our expertise in retrofittable IoT technology even further. The goal was to explore how connected sensors and embedded intelligence can make railway operations smarter, safer and more sustainable.

What followed was a 100-day journey of collaboration, creativity and challenge. Inside the heart of Berlin, we became part of a program that connected visionary startups with Deutsche Bahn experts to shape the future of regional mobility. It wasn’t just an innovation sprint, it was an opportunity to co-create the railways of tomorrow.

A Startup Locomotive on the Tracks of Transformation

Berlin became our proving ground. Beneath the historic arches of Jannowitzbrücke, where DB mindbox operates, we found ourselves immersed in an atmosphere of constant discovery. Workshops, mentoring sessions and real-world testing transformed ideas into prototypes and ambition into engineering.

From day one, we saw how deeply Deutsche Bahn is committed to innovation that matters, not only for passengers but for the sustainability and intelligence of rail operations. We felt their passion to modernize one of the world’s oldest transportation systems and their trust in startups to help make it happen.

For us at Embever, this was an environment where our expertise in cellular IoT and embedded systems could meet real-world rail challenges and where technology could translate into tangible improvements on the tracks.

Together, we explored how IoT could retrofit intelligence into existing railway systems without interrupting service. We learned how to balance startup agility with railway precision, how to move fast but with safety and reliability always in focus.

Day 100: Transpectra Rail Comes to Life

On the final day of the program, our journey reached its milestone, the presentation of Transpectra Rail, a compact, intelligent monitoring module designed specifically for railway infrastructure.

Transpectra Rail embodies everything we set out to achieve. It enables analog signal monitoring compliant with DIN IEC 60381-1, DIN IEC 60381-2, and Resistance standards, all through a non-interfering design that integrates effortlessly with existing systems.

It features built-in signal splitters, a power supply buffer for voltage stability, and a three-level threshold switch for precise monitoring. Equipped with NB-IoT and LTE-M connectivity, it ensures reliable data transmission, while GNSS with Dead Reckoning maintains accurate positioning even in tunnels. Designed to operate non-interfering at 24 V ± 30%, it’s robust, efficient, and cost-effective, ready for deployment at scale.

What began as an idea became a working innovation, ready to make a real impact on how railway systems are monitored and managed.
